Birds of Eastern Ecuador: the Amazon basin
The Amazon basin of Ecuador is found east of the Andes. It supports the richest biodiversity on the planet with over 1500 resident bird species. Habitats are typically characterized by tall humid tropical forest, both terra firme and seasonally flooded forest (varzea). In this gallery you find birds that have been photographed in the Eastern lowlands of Ecuador (below 800m) in the provinces of Sucumbios, Napo, Orellana, Pastaza and Morona-Santiago.
